Okay, this is so funny, my father of all people, who use to not believe in the internet or meeting people from the internet last night told me why don’t you try out one of those dating sites and see who you could meet. So he told me to get on one of them. So I have decided that maybe he is right since I have a hard time meeting people since I really don’t go out that much anymore and all I do is run and work. So if you want to check it out I am on there. It is under marathongirl1975. Yeah, crazy I know but how else are you supposed to meet a nice guy these days around your age. The whole bar scene thing never works out so why not try something new.

The King is Back!!!

This was my first time running in Tennessee. I have run a few races in a few other states but not one where everywhere you look there is Elvis. The Memphis ½ and whole Marathon is an experience that everyone should try at least once. Not only is the course a great course to PR on but it is a fun course. You see, as you are running there is Elvis singing to you, running next to you, or just cheering you on. And the St. Jude kids are great. They are everywhere making you feel as if you are not just running to run a race but running for a great cause. For those of you that don’t know what St Jude is all about here is an excerpt from their website:

Another great aspect of this race is the food after you run. They have so many different choices, from pizza to soup to sandwiches and trust me you want to try it all. Later if you want to go out to eat that night there are many different restaurants to choose from and they are all great.
After the race there is so much to do in Memphis. You can go to Beale Street (http://www.bealestreet.com/home.html) where they block off both ends of the street so you can walk up and down and go to many different bars. This is the home of the blues and the birthplace of Rock n’ Roll. You can go to almost any bar and see Elvis perform. Or if you want a more down to earth night you can go to the Peabody Hotel (http://www.peabodymemphis.com/home.cfm). This is a very interesting hotel. They have ducks that live in the hotel. Every day at 11 a.m., they are led by the Duckmaster down the elevator to the fountain in the Peabody Grand Lobby. A red carpet is unrolled and the ducks march through crowds of admiring spectators. The ceremony is reversed at 5 p.m., when the ducks retire for the evening to their palace on the roof of the hotel. You can go up there and see their living quarters. It is really cool to see this and if you have kids they would absolutely love it.
I am so glad that my parents asked me to go to Memphis this year and was also pleased with such a great turnout of people from Birmingham that came to run or watch the race. So many people did so great on this run that I think many of us might be going back again next year.
